ANNOUNCEMENT OF EXPANDED MANDATE AND NAME CHANGE
The Tropical Diseases Research Centre (TDRC) has undergone substantial transformation since its inception, evolving from a centre focused exclusively on tropical disease research to an institution dedicated to training and addressing the country’s most pressing health concerns.
We are pleased to announce that the transformation has ultimately led to a name change to the National Health Research and Training Institute (NHRTI), as legislated by the National Health Research and Training Institute Act, Act No. 13 of 2024, which officially repeals the Tropical Diseases Research Centre (TDRC) Act No. 31 of 1982.
The name change to NHRTI marks a significant milestone and reflects the institutes expanded mandate and commitment to advancing health research and training.
Our expanded roles include;
1. National Health Research Laboratory: Serving as a national reference facility we aim to enhance diagnostics promote innovation, and provide training.
2. Health Research Data Repository: Establishing a centralized and secure data management system for health research across the country
