NHRTI to Host a Toxicology Laboratory as it Signs Agreement with National Forensic Science and Biometrics Department (NFSBD)
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security through the National Forensic Science and Biometrics Department (NFSBD) has signed an agreement with the National Health Research and Training Institute (NHRTI) towards the establishment of a Forensic Toxicology Laboratory at NHRTI.
Acting State Forensic Analyst, Mr. Innocent Makasa highlighted that the partnership will enhance crime investigations, especially in cases involving poisoning, which have proved a challenge to resolve.
The equipment in the Forensic Toxicology Laboratory which will be based at NHRTI will also enable NFSBD to identify and quantify toxic substances individuals that abuse drugs and alcohol.
NHRTI Acting Deputy Director General, Dr. Mbanga Muleba noted that the timely collaboration will help enhance the dispensation of justice in the country.
Forensic Toxicology is the analysis of biological samples for toxins and drugs to determine their presence, concentration, and potential impact on an individual’s health or behaviour, in order to aid criminal investigations.
